Xordle: two words, one board
Xordle hides two five-letter words that share no letters on a single board. A tile lights up if it fits either word, so every clue could belong to one or the other. Find both in eight guesses, today or in Xordle unlimited rounds.
How to play Xordle
Two five-letter words are hidden on one board, and they have no letters in common. Each guess is checked against both words at once and gets one row of colors:
- Green: the letter is in that spot in one of the two words.
- Yellow: the letter is in one of the words, but somewhere else.
- Gray: the letter is in neither word.
The board starts with a free clue row already played, the same for everyone that day. It does not count against you. After that you have eight guesses to type both hidden words. When you find one, its row turns all green, and from then on the clues come only from the word you still need.
Sorting letters into two words
The puzzle in Xordle is not finding letters, it is working out which word each one belongs to. Because the two words share no letters, every lit letter belongs to exactly one of them, and that rule does a lot of work for you:
- Two greens in a row of clues can belong to different words. Try a guess that keeps one and drops the other to see which pair goes together.
- Vowels split up. If you know one word has A, the other cannot, so it needs its vowel from E, I, O, U or Y.
- Ten spots, not always ten letters. A word can repeat its own letter, like the three Fs in FLUFF, so the pair may have fewer than ten different letters. When the lit letters you have cannot fill both words, look for a double.
- Guess real candidates early. A word that might be one of the answers tests letters and may also finish half the puzzle at once.
Our best starting words guide ranks common openers. In Xordle, two openers with ten different letters between them are especially strong, since the pair can hold up to ten letters.
