More of the same game, with no daily limit

If you simply want another round right now, start here.

1. Vowelkit Unlimited and length modes

By Vowelkit

Our own game. The rules you know with a new five-letter word every round, plus modes from 3 to 11 letters, an easy kids mode, a daily puzzle with a leaderboard, the full archive and custom puzzles you can send to a friend. Free, no sign-up.

Wordle with more boards

Every guess goes into all boards at once, so you plan words that test letters for several answers. Each step up adds boards and a few extra guesses.

2. Dordle

Two five-letter words at the same time with seven guesses. The easiest way to try multi-board play.

3. Quordle

By Merriam-Webster

Four boards and nine guesses to solve them all. Has a daily puzzle and a practice mode.

4. Octordle

By Merriam-Webster

Eight boards and 13 guesses. Your first three or four words matter a lot, because they have to cover letters for eight answers.

5. Sedecordle

Sixteen boards and 21 guesses. Also has a one-board-at-a-time mode for small screens.

6. Duotrigordle

Thirty-two boards and 37 guesses. Expect a session closer to half an hour than five minutes.

Same colored clues, a new kind of puzzle

These keep the green and yellow feedback but change what you do with it.

7. Waffle

All the letters of six crossing words are on the board, scrambled. Swap tiles until every word is right. You have 15 swaps and each puzzle can be solved in 10.

8. Crosswordle

A 7x7 crossword grid with all letters present but scrambled. Swap pairs of letters until every tile turns green. Daily 7x7 and 9x9 puzzles, unlimited practice and an archive.

9. Absurdle

By qntm

There is no fixed answer: after each guess the game picks the reply that leaves the most words possible. You win by forcing it into a corner. A clever puzzle for players who know the original well.

Guess the word by meaning, not spelling

No letters to place here. Each guess tells you how close its meaning is to the secret word, so you move from topic to topic.

10. Contexto

Every guess gets a rank: the secret word is number 1, and related words get low numbers. Unlimited guesses and hints, so it never feels stuck for long.

11. Semantle

Each guess gets a similarity score to the secret word. Tougher than Contexto because the scores take some getting used to.

Word grids and letter puzzles

Make or find words from a set of letters. Great if you like the word-finding part of the game most.

12. Spelling Bee

By The New York Times

Seven letters in a honeycomb. Make words of four or more letters that always use the center letter. A word that uses all seven is a pangram and scores a bonus.

13. Letter Boxed

By The New York Times

Twelve letters around the sides of a square. Each word starts with the last letter of the one before, and two letters in a row cannot come from the same side. Use every letter in as few words as you can.

14. Strands

By The New York Times

A letter grid hides themed words and one spangram that names the theme and touches two opposite sides. Every letter belongs to exactly one answer.

15. Connections

By The New York Times

Sort 16 words into four groups of four. You can make four mistakes. The trick is that many words seem to fit more than one group.

16. Squaredle

Connect neighboring letters in any direction, diagonals included, to find every word on the board. New puzzles every day, plus a quick 3x3 Express puzzle.

17. Blossom

By Merriam-Webster

Make 12 words from seven letters. Longer words score more, and bonus letters and pangrams add points.

Games like Wordle that are not about words

The same guess-and-get-clues loop, with numbers or maps instead of letters.

18. Nerdle

Guess the hidden calculation in six tries. Colored clues work the same way, for digits and signs.

19. Worldle

Name the country or territory from its outline in six guesses. Each wrong guess shows the distance and direction to the answer.

20. Globle

Guess a country and it lights up on a globe in a warmer or colder color depending on how close it is to the mystery country.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free game like Wordle?
For the same game with no daily limit, play Vowelkit Unlimited. For a bigger challenge with the same rules, Quordle (four boards) is the most popular next step. If you want something different, Connections and Spelling Bee are the best known daily word puzzles.
Is there a Wordle-like game with unlimited plays?
Yes. Vowelkit Unlimited gives you a new word every round, and its 3 to 11 letter modes are unlimited too. Quordle and Crosswordle also have practice modes besides their daily puzzle.
Are there games like Wordle for kids?
Vowelkit's kids mode uses only common everyday five-letter words with the same colors and six guesses, and needs no account or chat. Shorter modes like 3 or 4 letters also work well for young players.
What are games like Wordle but not with words?
Nerdle uses math equations, and Worldle and Globle are geography games where you guess a country. All three keep the guess-and-clue format.
What is the hardest game like Wordle?
Duotrigordle, with 32 boards and 37 guesses, is the longest. Absurdle is hard in a different way, because the answer keeps changing to avoid your guesses. Our 11 letter mode is a good test with a single board.

Every game named on this page belongs to its own maker. Vowelkit is not affiliated with any of them, and we are not paid to list them.
