Crossplay letter values
Crossplay uses its own tile values. 9 letters score differently from Scrabble, mostly the middle letters such as G, K, V and W, which makes them worth holding on to.

Crossplay rules that change your best move
- Sweep, not bingo: all seven tiles in one turn earns 40 points.
- No penalty for leftovers: when the bag runs out, both players get one final turn and tiles left on your rack do not count against you.
- Same word list as US Scrabble: short words such as QI, ZA and XU are fine. Check any word with the word checker.
Playing Scrabble instead? The Scrabble word finder uses classic tile values, and the 2-letter words list covers every short play.
Frequently asked questions
- What dictionary does Crossplay use?
- The Crossplay dictionary is the NASPA Word List 2023 (NWL2023): the same list used in North American Scrabble clubs and tournaments, according to the New York Times help center. Proper nouns and trademarks are not allowed. This helper checks your tiles against that list.
- How do Crossplay letter values differ from Scrabble?
- Most letters score the same, but 9 do not: B is worth 4, G is worth 4, H is worth 3, J is worth 10, K is worth 6, L is worth 2, U is worth 2, V is worth 6, W is worth 5 in Crossplay. That is why a word can rank higher here than in a Scrabble word finder.
- What is a sweep in Crossplay?
- Using all seven tiles from your rack in one turn is called a sweep and earns 40 bonus points (Scrabble's version is a 50-point bingo). Enter exactly seven letters and every seven-letter word in the list includes the 40 points.
- How many blank tiles are in Crossplay?
- Three, out of 100 tiles. Type ? for each blank you hold. Blanks score zero and are underlined in coral in the results.
- Does the score include bonus squares?
- No. The points shown are the face value of your tiles plus the sweep bonus. Crossplay's 56 bonus squares depend on where you play, so use the list to compare words, then check the board.
- Can I add letters that are already on the board?
- Yes. Add the board letter to your rack, or open More filters and set Starts with, Ends with or Contains. With extra board letters the sweep bonus is not added, since the helper can no longer tell which tiles are yours.
- Is using a Crossplay helper cheating?
- Against an opponent who plays on their own, outside help is unfair to them. Many players use a word finder after a game to see the best move they missed, or to learn new words. Use it the way you and your opponent agree on.
