Wordle for kids: an easy five-letter word game
Kids mode uses only the most common everyday words, so young players can solve it with words they already know. Same colours, same six guesses, no account needed.
How kids mode works
- Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries.
- Green means the right letter in the right place. Yellow means the letter is in the word somewhere else.
- Grey means the letter is not in the word, so try different letters next time.
- Stuck? Tap Hint to see one letter.
The answers are 402 of the most common English words, like apple, happy, horse, music, water. Any real word is accepted as a guess, so children are never stuck because a word is missing.
Why word games help with spelling
Each guess asks a child to think about which letters a word contains and where they go. That is the same skill they use for spelling and reading. The coloured clues give instant feedback, and solving a word in fewer guesses is a goal children can see themselves improve on.
For a class or a sibling, use make a puzzle to turn any word into a link. The word is hidden in the link, so it works well for this week's spelling list.
