About Vowelkit

Vowelkit is a free, independent five-letter word puzzle. It is built to be quick to load on any phone, pleasant to play every day, and fair to compete in. There is no app to install and no account needed.

Where the words come from

The 869 daily answers are common English words chosen from SCOWL, a long-established open word list by Kevin Atkinson. Simple plurals and past tenses are left out, so answers are words you would expect. A larger list of accepted guesses, including British spellings, means real words are not rejected.

How we keep the leaderboard fair

The daily answer is never sent to your browser before you finish. Each guess is checked on our server, which also records your solve time, so the leaderboard cannot be filled with copied answers.

More than one puzzle

Besides the daily puzzle, you can play unlimited rounds, earn XP and levels, collect 17 badges, and send friends a challenge on the exact word you just played. There are also 3 to 8 letter modes, a kids mode, a puzzle maker and an archive of past puzzles. New to the game? Start with the guide.
