Quick strategy that pays off

  • Learn the short words. Two and three letter words let you play next to other tiles and score in two directions. Start with the 2 letter words and 3 letter words.
  • Use all seven tiles. Playing your whole rack earns a 50 point bonus. Look at the 7 letter words and keep balanced racks with common letters like E, R, S, T, A, I and N.
  • Put heavy letters on bonus squares. A Z or Q on a triple letter square is worth 30 points by itself.
  • Playing Words With Friends? Its letter values differ, so use the Words With Friends word finder.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Scrabble word finder work?
Enter the letters on your rack, with ? for each blank. The word finder lists every word you can build from them and sorts it by Scrabble tile points, so the highest-scoring play is first.
Does the score include bonus squares?
No. Scores are the face value of the tiles, with blanks at zero. Double and triple squares depend on where you play, so use the list to compare words, then check the board.
Which dictionary does the word finder use?
It uses the ENABLE word list (public domain), which is close to the words accepted in North American play. It is not the official tournament list, so a few newer words such as QI and ZA are missing, and a few words may not be accepted in every game.
Is using a word finder cheating?
In a friendly game, agree on it first. Many players use a word finder after a game to see what they missed, or to learn new short words. In tournaments, any outside help is against the rules.
Can I find words that fit a letter on the board?
Yes. Add the board letter to your rack, then open More filters and set Contains, Starts with or Ends with to that letter.
