How to use today's Wordle hints

Need a hint for Wordle today without the answer? These clues work for the NYT Wordle in any time zone. Play your first two or three guesses on your own. When you are stuck, open the next clue and stop as soon as you see the word. The clues go from general to specific:

  1. Vowels tell you how many of A, E, I, O and U to look for, or that Y is doing the work.
  2. Repeated letters catch the classic trap: a word like EERIE or SASSY that no single-letter guess will finish.
  3. Rare letters flag a J, K, Q, V, X or Z, the letters most starting words never test.
  4. Meaning gives a dictionary clue with the word itself blanked out. When no short meaning is available, this clue shows the middle letter instead.
  5. First and last letter are the strongest clues, one at a time.

How do the Wordle hints work?
There are six clues, from gentle to strong: how many vowels, whether a letter repeats, any rare letters, what the word means (or its middle letter when no meaning is available), then the first and last letter. Each one stays closed until you tap it, and the answer is last.
Is using a Wordle hint cheating?
