How to use the past Wordle answers
- Check a guess. Type a word in the box to see whether it was already an answer and on which day.
- Browse by date to find the word from a day you missed, newest month first. Recent days link to their own page with step-by-step clues.
- Browse A to Z to see which starting letters come up most, a handy way to weigh up your first guess.
Want to play an old puzzle instead of reading the answer? Wordle replay gives you any past day with six guesses. For the current puzzle, try today's Wordle hints or the Wordle solver.
Wordle word list: answers and allowed guesses
A search for the Wordle word list can mean two different lists. This page is the first one: every word that has been a Wordle answer, one for each day up to yesterday (1,953 days so far). The second is the much bigger list of words the game accepts as guesses: more than 10,000 five-letter words, and most of them will never be an answer.
The New York Times publishes neither list, and its editor picks each answer, so no list can tell you a future word. This page never shows today's answer or an upcoming one. To plan your guesses with every valid five-letter word, browse all 5 letter words, everyday words first.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Wordle repeat words?
- It can now. On January 28, 2026 The New York Times said that from Monday, February 2 it would begin adding previously run words back into play, so a past answer may come back. New words still appear too. The search above lists every date a word was the answer.
- How many Wordle words have been used?
- Every answer up to yesterday is on this page, and the count above the list grows by one each day. Puzzle numbers started at #0 on June 19, 2021.
- Is there a list of past Wordle words in alphabetical order?
- Yes. Switch the list to A to Z. Each word keeps its puzzle number and date, so you can see when it was used.
- Is it cheating to look at past Wordle answers?
- No. Past answers are already played. Many players check this list to see when a word last came up. Since repeats began, a past answer can still be today's word, so use it as a guide, not a rule. Today's answer is never on this page, so nothing here spoils the current puzzle.
